Glazing
Window selection, safety glass, human-impact protection. Energy performance of glazing is in Part 13.3.
Overview
Section 8 covers the structural and safety aspects of glass and glazing — wind resistance, human impact (AS 1288), and installation. Energy performance of glazing (U-value, SHGC) sits separately in Part 13.3 of the Housing Provisions, which feeds into the energy efficiency pathway.
Key Clauses to expand
On-site Checklist to expand
- Window wind rating matches site wind classification
- Safety glass (Grade A) in doors, sidelights, low-level glazing, wet areas
- Energy rating (U-value, SHGC) modelled in NatHERS or via the glazing calculator
- Visible markings on safety glass
Common Gotchas to expand
- Standard float glass next to a door (needs Grade A safety)
- Window U-value or SHGC swapped at supply — kills the energy rating
- Glazing in wet area not safety-rated
- Splash-back glass not toughened
