Windows and external glazed doors in buildings
Performance standard for windows — wind, water, structural and operating.
Overview
AS 2047 sets performance requirements for windows and external glazed doors as installed assemblies (frame, glass, hardware). Windows are tested for wind resistance, water penetration, air infiltration, and structural and operational performance, and rated with a wind pressure classification.
Key Requirements
- Window rated for site wind pressure (matched to AS 4055 or AS 1170.2 output).
- Water penetration resistance.
- Compliance plate or marking on each window stating rating and standard.
- Glazing must comply with AS 1288.
How it's used in the NCC
Called up by Part 8.2 of the Housing Provisions for windows in external walls.
Practical Notes
- Always check the compliance label is on each window when delivered.
- Substituting a window mid-build with a lower rating fails compliance — common audit issue.
